The High Priestess

Definition:*

Connect with your intuition, an invitation to focus inward and tend to spiritual matters, and a reminder to trust your inner knowing.

Poem:

The abandoned temple sits on a cliff by the sea

Vines climb the old columns and flow through the cracks in the stone

Barely visible in the darkened hall, she sits alone

You approach, heart pounding with each step

Desperation surges as you fall at her feet

Choking out, "I'm lost. I'm lost. What do I do?"

A cavernous silence fills the room

Until she looks down with her placid smile and says,

“You already know.”

Invitation:

The High Priestess represents a powerful, wise energy that we can all access. I personally find it to be an alluring card. It often appears when it's time to connect with your intuition. Many of us have been taught to distrust our inner wisdom, but there are ways to reconnect.

If you want to explore the energy of the High Priestess, you could try:

  • Meditation: When we meditate we create space to listen to our body, breath, and thoughts away from the everyday distractions. Creating this space can be extremely useful in helping you understand what your intuition sounds like. It doesn’t matter what type of meditation you try or how long you meditate for, but rather that you’ve made time for yourself.

  • Tarot: Okay—maybe this is a bit obvious—but working with the tarot is a great way to connect with the High Priestess. One practice could be engaging in a daily card pull to bring the tarot into your day-to-day routine.

  • Create space for retreat: How could you make space for retreat in your life? This could be spending the day at home making art and journaling or you could sign up for a daylong meditation class. Whatever is accessible and seems interesting to you works.
