I liked Lake Bled

I had planned the trip up until Austria and from there I had no idea where to go next. At first I thought Switzerland might be a logical stop on my way to Italy, but I just couldn’t seem to find any good Airbnb or hostel options with availability. So instead I decided to go to Slovenia. My friend Jen went on her honeymoon and recommended it strongly. And it was definitely the right choice.

My first stop was 4 days in Bled. Set on this picturesque lake near the mountains, it’s become a popular tourist spot. Before I went, I would hear two things: that Bled was gorgeous and not to be missed AND that it had become incredibly touristy. Both sentiments were true. But I am a tourist, so I don’t know if I’m in any place to judge the latter aspect.

Honestly, I spent most of my days going to the lake, swimming, and resting. It felt wonderful. My hostel was a bit away from the town, but it was easy to take a bus back and forth.

I also visited the Vintgar gorge, which had these dreamy waters surrounded by these steep slopes. Again my shitty camera failed to adequately capture it, but here is the best picture I got. And it was a little crowded with tourists so if I went again I would go early.

There is an island in the middle of the lake with a little church you can visit. You can swim out there from some parts of the lake, but I took a boat out there with about 10 other tourists. The church has a “wishing bell” where if you make a wish and ring the bell three times, it supposed to come true. I love shit like that so of course I did it. I won’t tell you what I wished for though.
